East Lodge Including Gate Piers And Boundary Wall, Abergeldie Estate

East Lodge, including gate piers and boundary wall, is a later 19th century single storey and attic T-plan gate lodge for Abergeldie Castle, featuring distinctive Gothic detailing on the south side. It is located on the main road at the eastern entrance to the castle. The lodge is constructed from pink and grey coursed granite and has deep bracketed eaves. The central projecting canted entrance porch on the south elevation rises to a break wallhead with a piended roof. The pointed arch doorway has a two-leaf four-panel door with pilastered jambs and a decorative Y-tracery fanlight above. There is a small window above the door and flanking windows with pointed arches and a Y-tracery glazing pattern.

The windows are predominantly timber sash and case, and the building features ridge stacks and graded grey slate roofing.

The gate piers and boundary wall include a set of four gate piers to the east, with two octagonal piers topped with ball finials, a wide iron carriage gate, and flanking pedestrian gates with square coped outer piers. There is a low rubble granite wall with rubble coping to the south.

Access to the interior was not possible during the site visit in January 2006.
