Description
Dalphuil is an early 18th century former manse, built on a compact, symmetrical square plan with three bays. It stands in a solitary position overlooking the River Gairn. The house is constructed of coursed grey and pink granite rubble. A piended roofed porch with a timber boarded door is centrally located on the south side, with a blank opening to the left. Closely spaced windows are present on the first floor, and to the left is a recessed single-bay outshoot with a timber boarded door. Timber 12-pane sash and case windows are fitted throughout. The house has piended roofs covered in stone slates, and a pair of tall wallhead stacks with canted coping are located on the north side. Interior access was not possible during a resurvey in 2006. The house is a distinctive example of granite rubble being used to create a classical style dwelling, and its square shape has led to it being locally known as the 'Teapot House'. It formerly served as the manse for Glengairn Parish Church (listed separately) and was also used as a school for the sons of local lairds. Ordnance Survey maps from 1866 and publications by Jane Geddes and Ian Murray provide further information.
