Description
South Range, Courtyard Range, Home Farm at Castle Grant is an early to mid 19th century building, likely incorporating earlier materials in the northern range. It consists of two linear, nearly parallel ranges to the south of Home Farm, running northwest to southeast, with a wall to the northwest and southeast enclosing a courtyard. The structure is built of harled rubble and features a single storey range with a loft to the north that includes a stable, bothy, larder, and animal sheds. The single storey range to the south, which also has a loft and attic, contains bothies, an animal shed, and a hayloft.
On the northeast elevation, the stable is on the left with a plain wall and a blocked door to the right, along with ventilation pipes under the eaves. A cobbled pend near the centre leads into the courtyard. To the right of the pend is the bothy, which has a timber porch with a mullion window, and a window to the left of the porch. There is a door and window for the animal shed to the right of the bothy.
The southeast elevation features a door on the left leading to a tack room, with a window above it.
On the southwest elevation, the stable is located at the far right, with a central door and single windows on either side. Above the eaves is a piended hayloft opening, with a pend to the left. To the left of the pend is the larder, which has two windows and a central ventilation hole. The bothy is also to the left, featuring two windows. The animal shed to the far left has a window to the left, a piended hayloft opening above the eaves with flanking windows, and a door to the right, along with three windows to the left.
The northwest elevation has an open wall.
