Description
Kincardine Church, built around 1780 and likely incorporating fragments from the medieval period, underwent renovations and recasting in 1897. It is a simple, narrow rectangular church with a harled exterior. The south elevation features four bays, with an entrance in the outer west bay that is mirrored by a similar entrance, which was blocked and turned into a window in 1897 at the east end. The center has a pair of square-headed windows, one of which is flanked by a small squint vent. A large circular window with a brick surround was added to the east gable in 1987. The church has late 19th-century lattice pane glazing, a single window on the south side, and an east gable light that includes early 19th-century stained glass. There is a small gallery window in the west gable, and the west apex features a bellcote topped with a ball finial. The roof is slate.
Inside, the church has a plain interior with a pine plank dado and ceiling from 1897, along with pine pews. There is a later oak communion table and pulpit, and a mural war memorial commemorating those who served in World War I. Decorative cast-iron features are present over the enclosed entrance lobby.
The burial ground is enclosed by simple rubble walls and has a pair of tooled grey granite square gate piers with simple caps, along with a pair of cast-iron carriage gates. The site includes a fine collection of early 19th-century local slate tombs.
