Description

Boat of Garten Station, built by the Highland Railway Company in 1863, consists of a range of single-storey timber and stone station buildings located on the down platform. The station building, which was rebuilt in 1904, has a long, rectangular plan divided into three sections. It features horizontal timber weatherboarding and has entrances on both the platform and rear elevations. The building includes tripartite glazing above the timber doors and multi-pane glazing in the timber-framed windows. The slate roof is pitched to the south and has a ventilator at the apex, with coped ridge stacks and ashlar skews.

The former station master's house, dating from the late 19th century, is a single-storey structure with an attic. It is built of tooled rubble with contrasting tooled ashlar dressings. The main entrance is located on the north side, sheltered by a projecting gabled porch that also has a side entrance facing the railway line to the east. The house features a pair of canted dormers in the outer bays, each with 4-pane glazing. The slate roof has projecting eaves and coped end stacks.

To the north, there is a signal box designed by Mackenzie and Holland for the Highland Railway. This rectangular-plan, gabled signal box is weatherboarded and has a first floor accessed by a forestair. It includes a half-gabled entrance porch that extends from the signal cabin, with multi-pane glazing on the east (trackside) elevation, which also returns to the north and south gable ends.

To the south, there is another signal box built by the Highland Railway in 1922. This rectangular-plan, two-storey structure is made of red brick with weatherboarding and features multi-pane glazing in the cabin (operating room). The west elevation has two windows in the locking room, each with raised ashlar cills and ashlar lintels. The north elevation includes a timber forestair leading to a half-gabled entrance porch at the upper level, while the east elevation has a small window in the upper right. The building has a tall wallhead chimney stack at the centre, set behind the eaves. The interior contains a McKenzie and Holland 30 lever 'Cam and Tappet' locking frame.

Additionally, there is a cast-iron lattice girder footbridge by the Highland Railway, accompanied by cast-iron lamp standards.
