Description
Craigend Castle, located in Mugdock Country Park, was designed by Alexander Ramsay in 1812. It is now a ruin, lacking a roof, and features a finely-detailed castellated Gothic style. The building has a two-storey, seven-bay elevation on the east side, along with a three-stage square-plan tower to the south and an octagonal tower to the east. The structure is made of droved ashlar and includes a deep base course, hoodmoulds, and corbelled parapets on the towers. The windows are a mix of rectangular and segmental-arched openings, with some still showing traces of decorative elements. The principal elevation on the east features a central porte cochere flanked by small octagonal towers and segmental arches. Inside, there is little original material remaining, but the remains of a sunken courtyard can be seen, along with some columns that have decorative capitals.
