Description
Old Newton is a late 16th and 17th century L-plan house, originally with a semi-circular end to its south wing. A two-storey, two-window wing was added to the west at a slightly later date. The house is harled, with crowstepped gables. A fragment of a courtyard arch remains. A later single-storey and attic office wing has been added. The walled garden is a mix of original and modern elements, and includes wrought-iron gates brought from the former walled garden at Inverardoch, originally designed by D. Bryce in 1859. Nearby gate piers on the main road formerly led to Inverardoch House, which replaced Old Newton as the main mansion on the estate.
