Description

Glentirran Cottage, dated 1905, is a pair of single-storey and attic cottages with three bays and rectangular plans, featuring battered angles to the north. Both cottages have been altered at the rear and are finished with painted harl and stone cills, and they include stone mullions.

The principal elevations are symmetrical. The cottage on the west side has a slated porch supported by slender Doric columns, an eaves overhang, and fretwork detail, leading to a part-glazed timber door at the center. There are tripartite windows in the flanking bays, and a corniced panel above the porch inscribed 'BOCHASTLE COTTAGE'. Segmentally-pedimented, bipartite dormer windows break the eaves over the outer bays, with the left dormer featuring a panel bearing entwined initials 'SM' and the right one dated. The cottage on the east side mirrors this design but has a sympathetically enclosed porch and a corniced panel inscribed 'GLENTIRRAN COTTAGE'.

The cottages have a 4-pane glazing pattern over plate glass lower sashes in timber sash and case windows. Bochastle Cottage has red tiles and a terracotta gablehead finial on the east side, while Glentirran Cottage features red tiles only on the north side. Both cottages have coped harled stacks with cans and plain bargeboarding with deep eaves.

Inside, the cottages have been modernized but still retain plain cornicing, architraved doorcases, and decorative cast-iron banisters with timber handrails.
