Description
The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 80-82 Murray Place in Stirling, was designed by J Dick Peddie from Edinburgh for the National Bank and is dated 1854. This building is an Italian Renaissance-style, three-storey, five-window banking palazzo constructed from ashlar stone with raised quoins. It features arched windows on the ground and first floors that are reminiscent of late cinquecento design, complete with sculptured spandrels. The ends of the building have arched and consoled doorways, while the second floor has shouldered openings. The structure is topped with a modillioned cornice that includes an enriched frieze, showcasing a level of detail that is exceptionally refined.
