Description
The Royal Bank of Scotland, located at 2 Whitehall in Maybole, is a three-storey, three-bay Italianate bank building designed by Peddie and Kinnear in 1857. It is constructed of ashlar stone, featuring rusticated quoins and polished dressings. The building has a plinth that supports a pilastered doorpiece with a round arch moulding. The ground floor has paired round-headed windows with apron panels, flanked by pilasters. There is a cill band running across the first and second floors. The outer bays of the first floor feature paired, pilastered round-arched windows, while the central bay has a single light window. On the second floor, the outer bays contain bipartite windows, and the central bay has a single light window with curved angles, set within squared panels. The building is topped with a very deep bracketed cornice, has end stacks, and is covered by a slate roof.
