Springwood House, Polmaise Road, Stirling

Springwood House, located on Polmaise Road in Stirling, was built around 1870. It is a large, asymmetrical baronial villa constructed from rock-faced red ashlar. The design features a dummy tower house nucleus, crow-stepped gables, polished detailing, and steep-pitched slate roofs. The windows are plate glass sash and case.

On the west front, there is a porch in the left-hand bay, with a central feature resembling a tower house and a recessed bay to the right. The long south elevation includes a left bay that is corbelled to a square in a Bryceian style, although it is partly obscured by a modern conservatory. Other details on this facade include additional crow-stepped gables, a balustraded single-storey bay window, and a turret supported by a squinch arch. The interior was not accessible for this report, and there are plain gatepiers at the entrance.
