Description
Staneacre House, located at 89 Townhead Street in Hamilton, is a building from the mid-18th century, with a taller wing added in the mid-19th century. It is arranged in a T-plan and showcases a simple Georgian architectural style. The house is two stories high and constructed from rubble with painted margins.
The south elevation features a two-window gable from the original house on the left, and to the right, there is a later two-window wing with cable moulded scroll skewputts and a deeply recessed doorpiece in the left bay, although the door itself is modern. Above the door, there is a plaque. The east gable is blank with straight skews, while the north gable has one window with cable scroll skewputts similar to those on the south side. The west elevation includes a central gable projection with one off-centre window on each floor and cable moulded skewputts.
Attached at a right angle to the north-west is a stable wing, which is also two stories high and features an off-centre gable window. This stable wing has a court with gatepiers to the south. The building has a slated roof with tall rendered stacks and a canted dormer located at the southeast of the original house. Additionally, there is a coursed rubble garden wall with coping and two square corniced gatepiers.
