Description
1 New Lanark Road is a classical lodge built around 1800. It is two stories high, has three bays, and features a rectangular plan with a piend roof. The lodge is located at the top of the descent into New Lanark and has a slightly advanced central entrance bay with a pediment. The exterior is made of roughly squared, coursed sandstone with ashlar dressings, and it includes an eaves course and long and short quoins. The windows are regularly spaced and have tabbed margins, with bipartite windows on the ground floor of the front elevation and on the first floor at the rear. The entrance door is timber-panelled and features a fanlight, set within a deeply recessed plain ashlar architrave. There is a conservatory addition to the rear that was added in the late 20th century. The lodge predominantly has 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, and it features rendered stacks with yellow clay cans.
