Description
Shieldhill Hall in Quothquhan was built in 1903 by Sir Nathaniel Dunlop of Shieldhill and Miss E Dunlop. This village hall is constructed from corrugated iron and is a single storey building with slightly lower wings extending from the northwest and southeast, creating a cruciform layout. The hall features timber framed gable ends, a concrete block platform, and timber detailed gables with simple timber finials. The roof is made of corrugated sheet metal and includes a central louvered ridge ventilator, which may be made of lead or zinc. The windows are mostly designed with 2-pane glazing below a cross bar and 4-pane glazing above.
On the front (northwest) elevation, there is a central advanced gable with steps leading up to a doorway that is recessed within an open porch. A window is located in the gable. The northeast and southeast gables have timber mullioned tripartite windows, while the southwest window is partially blocked. There is also a window in the rear gable. The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1991.
