Description
The gate lodge and gatepiers were designed by Basil Spence in 1937 and reflect the architectural style of Quothquhan Lodge. This is a single-storey, three-bay lodge, retaining simple detailing evocative of the 18th century. The lodge is constructed with a harled exterior and ashlar detailing around the openings. It has a slate roof and end chimney stacks. Small, asymmetrical windows are set within the end gables. A projecting rear entrance porch and two large, gabled dormers are also present. Behind the lodge, a curved harled wall with a coped top encloses a drying yard. The windows are sash and case with four and multi-pane glazing. Four squat gatepiers, constructed of harled brick and topped with stone conical caps, stand along a curved wall. The left-hand (south) gate pier and the adjacent south wall have been reduced to three brick courses and copings, though the original line has been maintained by a hedge.
