Description
4 High Street in Lanark is a former Tolbooth built in 1778 by mason John Purdie. The building has two storeys and features five windows. It is constructed of stucco with rusticated quoins and has painted margins around the windows, which include imposts and keystones above the round-headed designs. The ground floor has pilastered shop fronts, while the gable end displays two square-headed windows on the ground level and two round-headed windows on the first floor. Between these first-floor windows, there is a small carving of a double-headed eagle set into a square recess. The gable end also features a blind oculus with keystones. The building has straight skews and a stack located on the east end, with a slate roof completing the structure.
