Description

The building at 12-14 Montgomery Street in East Kilbride is a late 18th century, two-storey, three-bay former courthouse, which includes ranges and outbuildings at the rear. It features a base course, a first-floor band course, a cornice course, and quoins at the corners. The exterior is made of painted rubble with painted and raised margins.

On the west elevation, which is the principal front, there is a central door flanked by large single windows, with regular fenestration above on the first floor. The south elevation has two windows in the outer bays at ground level and a single window in the left bay on the first floor, with an outbuilding attached at the rear. The east elevation is connected to the outbuildings, while the north elevation has a blocked window in the right bay at ground level and a single window above on the first floor. The building has modern glazing and a slate roof with straight skews and coped stacks at the gable ends.

To the east, there is an L-plan range that is also made of painted rubble with painted margins. This two-storey T-plan building has a door in the left bay of the west face, flanked by a window, with two single windows above. The south face features a gable end with a window in the centre on the first floor and a small window in the attic. The north range has a single window on the first floor. The west face includes a lean-to porch with a door and attached buildings at right angles to the right side, featuring two openings on the end elevation.

The outbuildings are two-storey with M-gabled roofs, constructed of painted rubble and topped with a corrugated-iron roof. The west face has an entrance door in the right bay at ground level, a small window in the centre, and a large double door, which was an old coach entrance, to the left. There is a hayloft opening in the centre of the first floor. The north face is attached to the east range of the main block, while the east face has a single-storey lean-to.

The interior of 14 Montgomery Street is currently an off-licence, while the interior of 12 Montgomery Street was not seen in 2001.
