Description

The Montgomerie Arms Hotel, located on Montgomery Street in East Kilbride, dates back to around 1719. This two-storey, five-bay hotel features ranges that create a courtyard. The building is constructed from squared and snecked rubble with raised and painted margins, and it has a painted base course and eaves course.

On the northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central door flanked by two single windows adorned with flower baskets made from re-used horse troughs. Above, on the first floor, there are five windows. A single-storey link connects the main building to the west range, featuring a door and a window.

The northeast elevation, facing Glebe Street, has single windows in the right bay on both the ground and first floors, with a small window in the attic above. A two-storey, six-bay range extends to the rear, which includes a blocked door in the first bay at ground level, a single window in the second bay, a blocked archway with a single window in the third bay, a single window in the fourth bay, and a pair of doors in the end bays. There are six windows on the first floor of this range.

The southeast elevation is adjacent to 8 Glebe Street. The southwest elevation faces the Kirkyard, where a single-storey long range extends to the rear, forming a boundary to the Parish Church Kirkyard and is made up of three buildings. The first building has two single windows with raised and painted margins, the second building has a single window, and the third building has blocked openings. The end gable of the third building leads into the boundary wall.
