The Cricklewood, 27 Hamilton Road, Bothwell

Mid 19th century with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical plain classical rectangular-plan public house with 2-storey single bay piend-roofed addition to right and modern pitched conservatory at right angles to outer right. Painted, droved sandstone ashlar with painted dressings. Eaves course. Moulded architraves and raised cills to windows; cornice to (later) flat-roofed entrance porch; long and short quoins.

N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: rectangular-plan porch with narrow lights to left and right returns at ground in bay to centre; modern part-glazed 2-leaf doors with part-glazed 2-leaf vestibule doors behind; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in each bay flanking. Window at each floor to addition.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: irregular 4-bay with 2-storey 3-bay addition to centre and single storey flat-roofed addition to outer left with attic to original block above. Modern door at ground in bay to centre; small window at 1st floor above. Stair window in bay to right. Window (blocked) at ground in bay to left; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in (original) bay set back to outer right. Modern door, set to left, and to left return, of addition to outer left.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION: window, set high to left of centre to otherwise blank gabled bay; gablehead multi-flue stack above.

Variety of glazing patterns, (mostly replacement) including 4- and 8-pane timber sash and case windows; stained glass margins to stair window. Grey slate roof; slate to addition; modern felt covering to flat-roofed addition; painted droved ashlar coped stacks to E and W gables; ashlar coped skews; cast-iron rainwater goods with some uPVC replacements to rear.

INTERIOR: much refurbishment with modern cornices; timber and leaded stained glass partition to rear; carved consoles above later timber bar.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low sandstone rubble walls with ridged ashlar cope (railings missing).
