Description

15 Langside Road in Bothwell is a house built in the earlier to mid-19th century, with later alterations and additions at the rear. This two-storey, symmetrical, plain classical house has a three-bay rectangular plan and is situated on a steeply sloping site to the east. The exterior features stugged pink sandstone ashlar with polished ashlar dressings, while the rear and north elevation are finished in stugged sandstone rubble. The building has a base course, eaves course, and cornice, with raised margins around the windows and raised strip quoins.

On the east (entrance) elevation, there is a plain raised painted door surround topped with a painted timber block pediment. A deep-set replacement door is accompanied by a rectangular fanlight, and there is a window offset at the first floor, with a window in each bay on both floors.

The west (rear) elevation is also two-storey and three-bay. It features a window at ground level in the central bay, with a flanking part-glazed timber panelled door to the left. A later 19th-century dog-leg stair with cast-iron balusters leads to a replacement timber panelled door and a flanking window at the first floor above, along with a replacement door accessing the space beneath the stair. There is a window at each floor in the bay to the left and a window at the first floor in the bay to the right.

The south (side) elevation has two bays, each with a window at every floor, set wide apart. The north (side) elevation includes a modern basement door in the central bay and a non-aligned window at ground level above, with another window at ground level in the outer left bay.

The property features a low sandstone rubble boundary wall to the south, topped with squared rubble cope and terminating in a square-plan block pier, along with replaced wrought-iron gates. The front and south elevations have four over eight-pane timber sash and case windows, while the remaining elevations have replacement windows. The roof is covered with modern grey tiles and has skylights on the rear side, with some cast-iron rainwater goods and uPVC replacements at the rear.

The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1997.
