Description
Trumpeter's Well at Hillhead Farm in Caldermill is a circular well-head with a conical roof, likely constructed in the early 19th century. This site is historically significant as it marks the location where some of Claverhouse's men, including a trumpeter, were killed by pursuing Covenanters after the battle of Drumclog in 1679. The well-head is built from rubble and features an ashlar doorway and a slate roof, while the well itself is lined with stone.
