95 Lanark Road, Carstairs

This is a late 19th century terrace of three cottages, located at 93-97 Lanark Road, Carstairs Village, built in the Arts and Crafts style. The cottages are one storey and have an attic, constructed of polychrome brickwork in red, black, and white, with cream sandstone dressings. The frontages are arranged with porches and windows: the left-hand cottage has a porch and two windows, the central one a porch and a single window, and the right-hand cottage a porch. The porches have slated roofs with prominent eaves and bargeboards. The roof is steeply pitched and slated, with areas laid in a diamond pattern using two shades of grey. Three dormers are positioned mid-skew and are designed to resemble porches. Chimney stacks are present on the gables and transverse walls separating the cottages. All windows and doors are modern replacements. Despite these replacements, the terrace represents a fine group of Arts and Crafts cottages and makes a notable contribution to the character of Carstairs Village.
