97 Lanark Road, Carstairs

This is a late 19th century terrace of three cottages situated on Lanark Road, Carstairs, built in the Arts and Crafts style. The cottages are one storey and have an attic, and are constructed of polychrome brick in red, black and white, with cream sandstone dressings. The layout is as follows: a porch and two windows, then a porch, a single window, and finally another porch. All porches are slated, featuring prominent eaves and barge boards. The steeply pitched roof is also slated, with a diamond pattern created using two shades of grey. Three mid-skew dormers are present, designed to resemble porches. Chimney stacks are visible on the gables and transverse walls between the houses. The windows and doors are modern replacements. Despite these replacements, the cottages form a fine group that contributes significantly to the character of Carstairs Village. The statutory address is 93-97 Lanark Road, Carstairs Village.
