Robert Smillie Memorial Park Gate, Gallowhill Road, Larkhall

The Robert Smillie Memorial Park Gate, located on Gallowhill Road in Larkhall, dates from the later 19th century. It serves as the entrance to Robert Smillie Park and features a pointed arch at the center, topped with crenellations. On either side, there are circular-plan crenellated towers, each with segmental-arched pedestrian gateways at the base and a decorative trefoil motif. The gate is flanked by low crenellated walls that have blind slits and low crenellated circular-plan terminals. The structure is made of stugged cream sandstone ashlar, with a polished central arch ring and dressings. A marble commemorative plaque is located on the left-hand tower.
