Description

Rosebank House, located at 14-16 Rosebank Crescent in Ayr, is a detached classical house built around 1822, with later alterations. It is two stories high and features three bays. The entrance elevation is painted, while the sides are constructed of rubble. The building has a base course, eaves course, cornice, blocking course, and pilastered strip quoins.

The southeast (entrance) elevation includes a semi-elliptical plan Roman Doric columned entrance porch that slightly advances from the central bay. It has a mutule cornice and blocking course, a timber door, and a decorative letterbox fanlight. Above the entrance, there is a single window aligned at the first floor. Flanking the entrance are architraved windows on both the ground and first floors, with the ground floor windows featuring cornices.

The southwest (side) elevation consists of four bays arranged in two groups of two. It has regular fenestration on both the ground and first floors, with a window on the left side of the ground floor altered to form a modern conservatory porch, and a blind window on the right side of the first floor. There is a painted band course at the eaves level. The advanced two-bay section to the left also has regular fenestration.

The northeast and northwest elevations were not seen in 1999. The house features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with stone skews, rooflights, corniced gablehead stacks, and polygonal cans. It also has cast-iron rainwater goods.

The interior was not seen in 1999. The property is enclosed by a low boundary wall, which includes modern gatepiers, gates, and railings.
