Description
Hillhouse is an 18th-century house, originally harled in finish. It is two storeys high with a raised basement. The front elevation has three sash windows and a slight, centrally located projection finished with a small pediment. The eaves are moulded, and the roof is hipped, covered in slate tiles with two hipped dormers. Two tall chimneys are placed symmetrically on the roof. A modern porch now partially obscures the original doorway, which included a recessed round arched panel decorated with a shell ornament. Victorian additions exist to the side and rear of the original building. References to Hillhouse appear in Castles and Mansions of Ayrshire by A.H. Millar and New Statistical Account of Scotland, Volume V, page 678.
