Description
211-217 High Street in Ayr is a mid-19th century building on the left side, consisting of three bays, with alterations made by Murdoch and Lockhart in 1909 on the right side, which has four bays. This three-storey, seven-bay structure is made of beige ashlar and features a Freestyle tenement design with a modern shop on the ground floor. A cill course is present on the second floor, and there is a finialled wallhead balustrade flanked by dies and supporting scrolls. The windows are moulded, with a cornice on the first floor for the three-bay group on the left, and the central window has a pediment.
On the entrance elevation, the ground floor has a modern shop, and there are two pairs of two-leaf glazed doors leading to the entrance on the right. Pilaster strips frame the central two bays of the four-bay group on the right, rising to the finialed balustrade. There are two single windows on the first and second floors, with single windows flanking only on the second floor. The three-bay group on the left has regular fenestration on both the first and second floors.
The left side features four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the right side has timber casement glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and has coped stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
