Description
224 and 226 High Street in Ayr is a late 19th-century, three-storey, two-bay tenement. The building is constructed of polished red sandstone ashlar, with the first floor painted. It features a deep cill course at the first floor, a moulded cill course at the second floor, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course.
On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central entrance to a shop on the left, featuring a modern two-leaf glazed door with a letterbox fanlight above. To the outer right, there is a timber door leading to another entrance. The upper floors have regular fenestration, with pedimented windows on the first floor.
The first and second floors have four-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes coped stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
