Description
2 Kyle Street in Ayr is an earlier 19th century commercial building that has undergone some alterations. It is a two-storey structure with six bays, featuring a bowed design at the street corner. The ground floor is finished with painted render, while the first floor has painted coursed sandstone. There is a deep band course that separates the two floors, along with an eaves course, cornice, and blocking course.
On the north elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are grouped bays 2 to 4. The central entrance leads into a bowed section with four bays, flanked by pilasters and a double cornice. It features a two-leaf timber door with a letterbox fanlight above, and there are shop windows on either side at the ground level. To the left, there is a pilastered and corniced infilled doorpiece that leads to two bays, along with a single shop window. The first floor has regular fenestration.
The northwest elevation, facing Alloway Street, has five bays. There is a two-leaf timber door at the outer right that leads to the entrance, with a commercial sign above the letterbox fanlight. The ground and first floors to the left have regular fenestration. The ground level has fixed shop windows, while the first floor features modern tilting windows. The building is topped with a grey slate conical roof, which has a stone skew and an abbreviated stack facing Alloway Street.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
