Description
The James Brown Selkirk Plaque, created by Thomas J Clapperton in 1931, is a bronze plaque mounted on a red sandstone, coped wall pier. It is located to the south of Victoria Halls, at the corner of High Street and Chapel Street in Selkirk. The plaque features a bas relief of two draped figures embracing within a segmental-arched niche. Below this image is the inscription: "Then I turn to sister Jean/ And my airms about her twine." Below the figures is a three-quarter view bust portrait of James Brown Selkirk, along with the text: "J B Selkirk (James Brown (1832-1904) Poet and man of Letters. Author of 'Selkirk after Flodden' erected by Admirers of his works 1931."
