Description
The presbytery on High Street in Selkirk is a former school building from the mid-19th century, specifically before 1858, with later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey structure with a rectangular plan and consists of six bays. The exterior is made of whinstone rubble with dressed red sandstone details, and each window features a timber mullion.
On the northeast elevation, the bays are arranged in a 2-4 distribution. There is a window in each bay of the two-bay group and a window in each bay of the four-bay group, except for the projecting gabled porch located in the outer left bay, which has a boarded door and a rectangular fanlight above it. There is also a further addition to the northwest that is set back.
The southeast elevation, facing High Street, has a gabled design with five concrete steps leading up to a door on the outer right and a window in the center. The building features 8-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof over the two-bay group at the southeast end is covered with purple slate, which steps up to a grey slate roof over the four-bay group. The gables display exposed rafters.
The interior was not seen during the last inspection in 1996.
