Description
This is an early 19th century farmhouse, likely incorporating earlier materials, with subsequent additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-story, three-bay rectangular building with a projecting porch at the front. A lower two-story wing extends to the rear, accompanied by further single and two-story additions to the north and west, and a single-story addition to one side.
The front (south) elevation is primarily constructed from coursed and tooled cream sandstone, while the sides and rear feature harl-pointed rubble. Rear additions are of rendered, harled, and tooled rubble sandstone. A base course is present, with predominantly projecting cills. A single-story ancillary structure stands to the west. The south elevation features a single window in a lean-to porch at the center, flanked by single windows at ground level. Single windows are in each bay at the first floor, with a single-story glazed addition recessed to the outer left.
The east side elevation has a gabled end to the left with single windows on both floors in both bays, and a small attic light in the gablehead. A lean-to porch, with a timber panelled door and a four-pane fanlight, is recessed to the left. The lower wing is recessed to the right, with three single windows at ground level, and gabled dormerheads breaking the eaves above in two bays. A single-story, lean-to addition is located to the outer right.
The north (rear) elevation has a piended projection centered, with a lower addition to the right, and single-story additions to the front. The principal block has a blind elevation, recessed to the outer left, and a single-story addition recessed to the outer right.
The west side elevation has a gable end to the right with a single window at ground level and a single-story projection at ground level to the left. A single window is offset to the left of the center on the first floor, and a small attic light is centered in the gablehead. The lower two-story wing is recessed to the left with a full-width, irregularly fenestrated lower addition to the front and a single-story, lean-to addition to the outer left.
The windows are predominantly timber sash and case with 12 panes of glass; some modern windows are at the rear. The roof is covered in grey slate with stone-coped skews. Rendered apex stacks are visible on the principal block, with a sandstone ridge stack at the rear, and various cans are present.
The interior was not inspected in 1999.
The ancillary structure is a single-story, two-bay rubble block with a two-bay rendered addition to the north, topped with a grey slate piended roof.
High rubble garden walls partially enclose the site, including a tall, sloping wall to the east. Pyramidal-capped, square-plan gatepiers stand at the entrance, although the gates are missing.
