Description
Late 19th century with later additions and alterations. 2-storey with attic, 2-bay terraced tenement with shop accommodation at ground; advanced from NW elevation of No 4 High Street to NE. Painted ashlar at ground (possibly partly rendered), bull-faced sandstone above with polished ashlar dressings; whinstone rubble with sandstone dressings to rear. Modern broad fascia; cornice above; cill to 1st floor windows; flush quoins and tails to windows; eaves course.
NW (MARKET PLACE) ELEVATION: large fixed-pane panoramic window at ground of wider gabled bay; bipartite window at 1st floor; window to gablehead above, flanked by shield plaques. Pend-entrance at ground of narrow right with window at 1st floor above.
NE ELEVATION: modern glazed shop door at ground; blank at 1st floor above.
SE ELEVATION: extensive additions, now partly truncated due to demolition, 1996.
Plate glass timber sash and case windows. Slate rood with gabled dormer to outer right of NE elevation, adjacent to sandstone, coped wallhead stack. Further brick coped wallhead stack to NE.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1996.
