Description

Later to late 19th century. 3-storey, 5-bay tenement with shops at ground, in irregular terrace. Dressed ashlar, painted at ground with partial cornice above, raised margins, quoin strips and chamfered arrises; base course; bracketted cills. NORTH (HIGH STREET) ELEVATION: shop to outer right with cornice, door and display window to left; door with plate glass fanlight to right of centre under band course; corniced shop door and display window at centre, corniced display window and shop door left of centre; segmental-arched pend entrance to outer left under band course, stone setts to full length of pend; all shop doors 2-leaf, timber and panelled. 1st and 2nd floor with regular fenestration. Harled, circular stairtower to rear of No 172. 12-pane glazing pattern in sash and case windows to 3 left windows at 1st floor, 12-pane pattern in modern windows above; plate glass glazing in sash and case windows to 4 right windows; plate glass glazing at ground. Grey slates, ashlar coped skews and broad, coped ashlar stacks with some cans.
