Gala Fairydean Football Stadium, Nether Road

Gala Fairydean Football Stadium, located on Nether Road, was designed by architect Peter Womersley in collaboration with engineers from Ove Arup between 1963 and 1965, with some later additions. This late Modernist football stand features a unique construction of board-marked concrete and engineering brick. It is characterized by four V-sectioned vertical fins that support a wedge-shaped stand and a cantilevered canopy. At either end of the stand, there are turnstiles topped with inverted pyramidal canopies. The ground level includes accommodation and a bar, with open-tread concrete stairs at both ends leading to the seating area, which is made of concrete and timber boards.
