Gateway, Abbotshill Lodge, 54 Abbotsford Road

Abbotshill Lodge, built in 1874 by William Hay, is a single-storey and attic L-plan Baronial gate lodge. It features a conical-roofed entrance turret at the re-entrant angle and prominent crow-stepped gables. The building is constructed from squared stugged buff sandstone with ashlar dressings, and includes a base course and an eaves band course. There is a flat-roofed extension at the rear.

The lodge has non-traditional replacement glazing throughout and a slate roof, with fishscale slates on the turret and a harled pitch-stack.

Inside, the lodge has been largely modernised but retains much of its original layout.

The gateway consists of square-plan gatepiers topped with conical caps and corner colonnettes, accompanied by low wing walls.
