Description

The Old School House, located at 6 Sinclair's Hill, is a mid-19th century single-storey cottage-style building that originally served as both a school and the schoolmaster's residence, and is now used for residential purposes. The structure is built from stugged, squared, and snecked sandstone, featuring ashlar dressings and rusticated quoins. It consists of two connected parts, with piended roofs; the front section, originally the residential area, has overhanging eaves.

The entrance is centrally located and includes a door with a diamond-pane pattern in the fanlight above. It is adorned with a gabled porch designed to resemble a 'tree trunk', supported by paired columnar trunks and featuring applied branches in the gablehead, topped with a spike finial. On either side of the entrance are stone-mullioned tripartite windows with subtle hoodmoulds. There are two additional windows on the left return and a window with a lean-to porch on the right return. The rear elevation includes a narrow window at the center, which was not part of the original design, flanked by regular windows, one of which was formerly a door.

The front features diamond-pane glazing in the timber casement windows, while the sides and rear have 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roofs are covered with graded grey slate, and there are three linked polygonal stacks along the center ridge of the front roof.

The front of the property is enclosed by a timber palisade fence, and there is a stone wall on the side. The interior was not inspected in 1997.
