Description
1-4 Harestanes Cottages, located on the Monteviot Estate, were built in the later 19th century. This single-storey and attic row consists of seven bays, featuring three cottages and an additional gabled cottage to the west, creating a T-shaped plan. The cottages are constructed from squared and snecked red and pink sandstone, with raised margins. They have breaking eaves dormers topped with prominent cat-slide roofs. The ground floor features architraves and quoins, with some bipartite window openings. Above the entrance doors, there are corbelled sloping stone hoods. The gabled cottage displays decorative timber bargeboarding, and there is a later gabled porch to the west.
The windows are predominantly 4-over 4-pane and 8-over 8-pane, made of timber sash and case, although some non-traditional windows are present. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are corniced ridge stacks.
