Description
The summerhouse at Traquair House, dated 1834, is a circular structure featuring a thatched conical roof. It has a softwood frame and lathes, with external walls made of heather thatch and an overhanging reed-thatched roof. The building includes two pointed arched openings.
Inside, the walls display a herringbone pattern, and there is an inlaid date of '1834' along with a coronet cipher made from contrasting materials. The interior also features a continuous arcaded bench, though most of its supports are missing, and a circular pedestal table crafted from matching hazel twigs. The ceiling is adorned with heather and includes a contrasting star detail and ribs.
