Description

Craigmount is a large, irregular two-storey, three-bay double pile gabled villa built in the early 20th century. It features a cream bull-faced sandstone front with dressings, stugged quoins, and dry-dashed secondary elevations. The building has overhanging eaves with exposed rafters and bargeboards.

On the east elevation, there is a projecting square entrance tower at the center, which has a round-arched window at the ground level and a panelled door in the south return with a 10-pane fanlight. Above, there are segmental-arched windows on both faces at the first floor, topped by a pyramidal roof with swept eaves, fish-scale slates, and a weathervane finial. To the right, a broad gabled bay features a canted window at the ground level with an overhanging piended roof and a tripartite window at the first floor. A broad bay set back to the left has a veranda roof at the ground level that wraps around the corner, also covered with fish-scale slates, and a canted window to the left that aligns with the canted window at the corner of the south return, creating a polygonal corner bow. At the first floor, there is a bipartite window that breaks the eaves with a gabled dormer head.

The south elevation has a projecting gable to the right with a window at the ground level and another window to the left at the first floor. To the left, there is a bipartite window at the ground level and a window at the first floor that breaks the eaves with a swept dormer head. A single-storey service range is set back to the left.

On the west elevation, a pair of gables flank a staircase window, while a single-storey service range projects at the ground level.

The north elevation features a gable to the left with a window at the ground level, and to the right, there is a window on both floors that breaks the eaves with a swept dormer at the first floor, along with a wallhead stack to the right.

The windows throughout the building are timber, with sash and case designs featuring multi-pane upper sashes. The canted windows have casements with timber mullions and transoms, along with multi-pane upper sections. The roof is covered with grey slates and terracotta ridge tiles, and there are coped sandstone apex stacks with terracotta cans.

The interior was not seen in 1994.

The property also includes coped square ashlar gatepiers, which are painted and have chamfered arrises, along with rubble boundary walls topped with boulder coping.
