Description

5 Lintlaw Farm Cottages is a pair of single-storey cottages with an attic, built in the earlier to mid-19th century, featuring later additions and alterations. They form a symmetrical, six-bay block with lean-to additions at the rear. The front is made of harl-pointed squared and tooled cream sandstone rubble, with tooled sandstone dressings. The rear and east elevations are made of harl-pointed rubble, while the west elevation is dry-dashed, along with the rear additions. The cottages have tooled quoins, tooled long and short surrounds to the openings, and projecting painted cills at the ground level and in the gabled wallhead dormers.

On the south entrance elevation, each cottage has a step leading to a part-glazed boarded timber door, with a plate glass fanlight above the door for No. 5 and a three-pane fanlight for No. 6. There are single windows flanking the doors at ground level and single windows in the dormers above. The east side elevation features a blind gabled block on the left and a slightly recessed lean-to addition on the right. The north rear elevation has a near full-width lean-to addition centered in each cottage, with single windows in bays that are recessed to the left and right. The west side elevation mirrors the east, with a blind gabled block on the right and a slightly recessed lean-to addition on the left.

The cottages have 8-pane vertical glazing in timber sash and case windows at the front ground level and 6-pane glazing in the timber sash and case dormers. The rear features modern windows and rooflights. The roof is covered with grey slate and has stone ridging, slate-hung dormers, stone-coped skews, bracketed skewputts, and cast-iron rainwater goods. There are corniced, part brick-built ridge and apex stacks with various circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
