Description
Drumlanrig Hospital, built in 1857, is a former poorhouse that features a symmetrical, rectangular plan and stands two stories tall with eleven bays. The building has a piend roof and is constructed from random whinstone rubble, accented with droved red sandstone ashlar dressings. It includes an eaves course and projecting cills. The central doorway on the northwest elevation is highlighted by a prominent Classical architrave, featuring a door with a semicircular fanlight and narrow sidelights. Above this doorway is a tripartite stone-mullioned window, while the rest of the building has regular fenestration, with some ground-floor windows converted into doorways. The northeast corner is chamfered at the ground floor and corbelled out at the angle above. The southeast elevation has a central pediment. The windows are predominantly timber sash and case with lying-pane glazing, mostly consisting of eight panes. The roof is covered with grey slate and has a metal ridge.
