Description
The fountain in Drumlanrig Square, Hawick, was designed by J P Alison in 1910 and is built in a Free Renaissance style. It is prominently located at the center of the square. The fountain features a circular stepped base and a cross-shaped granite plinth with a base course and a key-pattern frieze. This plinth supports two plain garlanded sandstone Ionic columns on each wing, with a central round-topped block that houses the drinking fountain on the northeast side. There are inscribed tablets on the northwest and southeast sides, and a timber-boarded door on the southwest side. Above, there is a corniced canopy topped with a copper-domed clock that has cartouches and console-bracketed corners, along with a weathervane.
