Description

The Manse on Main Street in Kirk Yetholm is a former manse built in 1788 and reworked in the 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay building with an L-shaped plan, harled exterior, and raised polished sandstone margins, featuring crowstepped gables.

The southwest elevation is three bays wide, with a crowstepped gabled porch at the center. There is a window to the southwest, a doorway to the right with a boarded door and a three-pane fanlight, and a blinded doorway to the left. A tripartite window is located in the outer left bay, while the outer right bay has a single window.

The northwest elevation has four bays, each with a single window, and features two advanced gabled bays on the outer right.

On the southeast elevation, there is a doorway at the re-entrant angle with a panelled door and a plate glass fanlight above it. A round-arched stair window is located in an overhanging panel above. The right side has a range of single windows that are irregularly disposed, an advanced gabled bay on the outer left, and a French window offset to the left at ground level. There is also a single window at the first floor above and another window offset to the right at ground level, along with single windows at both ground and first floors on the return to the right.

The northeast elevation features single-storey outhouses adjoining the gabled bay, with a window offset to the left at the first floor.

The building has small pane sash and case windows, a grey slate roof with coped gablehead stacks, and beak skewputts.

The outhouses consist of T-plan ranges of harled single-storey structures adjoining the house, along with a detached pitched-roof garage to the northeast.

Boundary walls are made of squared and snecked whinstone, including quadrant walls at the gateway.
