Description

14 Coldstream Road in Swinton is a building dated 1843, originally serving as the Free Protesting Church of Scotland, with a manse on the first floor. It has been converted for private residential use in the later 19th century. The structure is a 2-storey, L-plan house with a single-storey wing to the southeast, which features a lean-to porch on the east side. There is a gabled wing adjoining a separate residence.

The exterior is constructed from cream sandstone rubble with droved cream sandstone dressings. It includes droved rubble quoins, droved long and short surrounds to the openings, and projecting cills.

On the northeast (entrance) elevation, the 2-storey block is located to the right, featuring a projecting, gabled bay at the outer right, which is a blind elevation. To the left, there is a single-storey wing that projects from the re-entrant angle, with a glazed porch at the front and a gabled bay on the outer left that has a single window at its center. A separate residence is located beyond this.

The northwest (side) elevation has a blocked doorway offset to the left of center, with a single window in the bay to the outer left at ground level.

On the southwest (rear) elevation, there are single windows on both floors in a bay offset to the left of center. The single-storey wing is recessed to the right and features small-paned, 2-leaf doors at the center. The gabled wing to the right has a single window offset to the left, with a separate residence projecting to the outer right.

The southeast (side/former entrance) elevation has a 2-storey block with a part-glazed timber panelled door at ground level, offset to the left of center, and a 3-pane fanlight above it. There is a sandstone panel inscribed with "Free Protesting Church of Scotland, 1843, Christ hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written King of Kings & Lord of Lords, Rev 19 16," above the door. A single window is aligned at the first floor. The projecting single-storey wing is in the bay to the right, with a single window at the first floor in the bay recessed to the outer right.

The building predominantly features 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows, although the single-storey wing has modern windows. The roofs are covered with grey slate and have raised stone skews, along with corniced brick apex stacks and various circular cans.
