Description
26 High Street in Jedburgh is a mid-19th century building with an early 20th century addition. It is a two-storey and attic, three-bay classical bank and bankers house constructed of pale cream ashlar sandstone. The front features a corniced Ionic porch with a pair of free-standing columns and pilasters on either side. The central entrance has a panelled door topped by a rectangular fanlight, and there is a band course at the cornice level. The ground floor windows have architraves that extend down to the base course, with a pair of windows in the left bay. On the first floor, there are single windows with lugged, moulded architraves and a cill course. Above, a cornice is topped by a parapet that is interrupted by three later pedimented, architraved ashlar dormers.
The rear elevation is an M-roofed, two-bay structure made of irregular rubble, with dormers that break the eaves. The building features six-pane timber sash and case windows, with lower sashes made of plate glass on the ground floor and four-pane windows in the dormers. Additional details include cast-iron downpipes and moulded rainwater heads, grey slate roofing, and a harled side gable head and stack.
