Description
24 High Street in Jedburgh is a building designed by James Pearson Alison in 1895. It is a three-storey and attic shop with a flat above, constructed from honey-coloured stugged coursed ashlar sandstone featuring polished dressings and chamfered arrises. The building has a broad central bay and a modern shop front at ground level, which includes a large plate glass window in the center with flanking doors, one of which provides access to the flat above.
On the first floor, there are corniced windows that flank a recessed arcaded loggia. This loggia is supported by a single Tuscan column at the center, which holds up a pair of arches adorned with moulded architraves and keystones. A wrought-iron balustrade surrounds the loggia, which has two windows in the center and one window on each side of an inverted cant. The second floor features a tripartite window at the center, flanked by single windows. The attic contains a bipartite window set in a crested central gablet.
The building has timber sash and case plate glass windows in the central bay, with four-pane windows in the outer bays. The roof is raised grey slate with a steep pitch and a platform, part of which serves as modern storage at the rear.
