Description
32 High Street in Jedburgh is a mid-19th century, three-storey tenement with a converted attic, featuring eight bays and original shops on the ground floor. The building is constructed from coursed cream sandstone with ashlar dressings.
On the southeast elevation facing High Street, the central area has an ashlar corniced door surround with roll-moulded arrises and a deep-set panelled door leading to the house, topped by a rectangular fanlight. To the right, there is a three-bay ashlar shop front with a cornice, which includes a central two-leaf panelled door and two vertically split 2-pane plate glass windows. To the left, there is a similar two-bay shop front without a cornice, featuring a door on the left and a single window on the outer left, which is now also part of the shop. The upper floors have single windows in all bays, with cills at the first floor and a cill course at the second floor. The left bays are adorned with two timber box dormers, while the right block has three Velux skylights.
The rear elevation presents a handsome irregular three-storey U-plan made of rubble, with lean-to sheds at the centre. Access to the southern flats is provided from Ninian Bell's Close at the side. The windows are 12-pane timber sash and case, and the roof is covered with grey slates, featuring brick stacks and flat skews, with console skewputts raised to the level of the gable of No 30.
