Description
The British Linen Bank, located at 38 High Street in Jedburgh, is a mid 19th century, three-storey, three-bay bank situated on a corner site with offices at the rear. The building features an angle design and is constructed from snecked cream sandstone rubble, with stone cills.
On the southeast elevation facing High Street, there is a modern bank front made of two-tone granite at ground level. The upper floors have windows in each bay, with the second-floor windows being shorter and featuring a cill course. Above, there is a cornice and a blocking course, and the angle of the building is rounded and recessed.
The northeast elevation, which faces Jewellers Wynd, has eight bays with decreasing storeys. The left side has a three-storey, four-bay block with a window in each bay and on each floor. At the far left corner, there is a pilastered and corniced ashlar doorcase, painted grey, which includes a panelled door and a rectangular fanlight. To the right, there is a large box dormer and a single window dormer to the left. An addition is present beyond this, consisting of two two-storey bays on the outer right, with the first bay featuring bipartite windows, and two single-storey bays, the first with a door and the last with a bipartite window.
The building has small-pane timber sash and case glazing throughout, with gabled and piended roofs, saw-tooth skews, and grey slates.
