Memorial To Thomas Tweedie Including Enclosure Railings And Gate, Rachan Wood

The memorial to Thomas Tweedie, built around 1855, serves as a mausoleum for Thomas Stevenson Tweedie and his wife Benjamina. It features a three-bay symmetrical design with intricate classical detailing. The structure includes a rear wall made of sandstone ashlar and a colonnaded front and sides. On the rear wall, there is a polished granite inscription panel, along with a panel above that displays a wreathed blind shield. The monument is supported by four square-plan columns with Composite capitals, each topped with angelic heads, which hold up a moulded architrave. The central bay is adorned with a winged globe. The memorial is enclosed by a burial enclosure that includes a dwarf boundary wall, railings, and a gate. Large stone slabs form the roof of the structure.
